Joe was a true American hero that served in WWII. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion in Claysville and a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in Clearwater. He was a hard-working engineer, devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather. Known by most as Papa. He worked the land and grew amazing vegetable gardens and flowers; collected arrowheads and sea shells; enjoyed playing golf; loved taking his family on vacation to the beach, historical sites, and Walt Disney World. Joe and Eileen were life master bridge players and traveled playing the game. They also played hours of games and cards with his family and friends. He loved he Lord, taught Sunday School and served as Deacon in the Baptist church. He lived a wonderful life. As someone recently pointed out, it was not a normal life, it was an extraordinary life. He is loved and will be missed.

There will be a visitation from 11am-1pm with funeral service at 1pm, Saturday, August 12th, at Crossroads Baptist Church, 2244 Curlew Rd, Palm Harbor, FL 34683. Procession to Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, FL 33759, for committal service and military honors will follow. At the conclusion of Joe's services, friends and family are invited back to the church for a gathering and reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s name to Disabled American Veterans, DAV Commander of Chapter 11, 750 Heathrow Ln, Palm Harbor, FL 34683, or Suncoast Hospice, www.suncoasthospicefoundation.org or 5771 Roosevelt Blvd, Clearwater, FL 33760.
